Arts & Craft Centre – sewing first poppy onto the veil

By 26th July 2021Press Release

The Arts & Crafts Centre invited His Worship the Mayor, Mr Christian Santos GMD to visit their premises and sew the first poppy onto a display to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The display consists of a 2m x 10m veil created by over 100 people from all around Gibraltar, to include the team at the Arts & Crafts Centre and residents of Mount Alvernia. Back in May volunteers decided to crochet, knit and sew poppies, and the project steam rolled from there, culminating in over 5500 individual poppies being created.

Along with the red poppies, purple poppies were also created to also pay tribute to all the animals that died in service.

His Worship was honoured to be invited to be involved in this beautiful project which will serve to remind us of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
